Trainer Profile
Described as a rising star in South Australia's training ranks, Sarah has wasted no time establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with. Given her background in the industry, her rapid success comes as no surprise.
With seven years working under master trainer Tony McEvoy for seven years, as the strapper, trackwork rider, and travelling companion for Group 1-winning mare Sunlight, Sarah endured an apprenticeship that had her destined for success when it came time to train in her own right.
Her training journey began in February 2023 when she saddled up her first runner, Kristobel. Just a month later, she celebrated her first victory with the mare at Balaklava.
Quickly establishing herself as an astute trainer, she credits her years at McEvoy as invaluable in equipping her with the tools needed to succeed.
“Stepping out on my own was always going to be a challenge, but it’s one that has seen both me and my stable flourish,” she said.
"Horses have always been number one in my life. I always had horses—I got my first pony when I was five."
"I’m always looking to get the best out of my horses, no matter their ability. If they can perform to their peak and get the best results possible, then I’ve done my job.”
Inspired by some of racing’s leading ladies, including Gai Waterhouse and Annabel Neasham, she has her sights set high.
"To be one of the best female trainers—that's probably my goal," she said.
"Everyone wants to be the best in their state, and that’s what I’m striving for.
"When you're competing with the big stables, you have to respect them. Obviously, I'm only just at the beginning of my training career, but I don’t want to be a trainer who just picks up a couple of winners—I want to be the best I can be."
