Trainer Profile

John Hickmott has built a reputation as one of South Australia's most respected and experienced horse trainers. Originally from Wangaratta, Hickmott balanced a real estate business with hobby training before making the full-time leap into racing. A chance success at Murray Bridge more than 30 years ago sparked a move to South Australia, where he has since become a prolific figure in the industry, consistently preparing winners across the state. Now based at the modern Gifford Hill facility in Murray Bridge, Hickmott continues to apply his deep knowledge of horses to great effect.

A true horseman at heart, Hickmott's passion for animals has driven his career. He breeds, rears, and races his own stock, allowing him to develop horses patiently and bring out their best. His ability to manage and condition difficult horses is well known, with Flow Meter—who amassed nearly $800,000 in prize money over 200 starts until the age of 12—standing as a testament to his training philosophy.

With decades of experience and a deep respect for the horse, Hickmott remains a cornerstone of South Australian racing, continuing to shape and develop equine talent with patience, skill, and unwavering dedication.
