A patient ownership group was rewarded on Saturday when The Cosmic One broke through for his maiden victory at Morphettville, winning at just his second career start.
Bought for only $22,500 from the 2023 Adelaide Magic Millions Sale, the now four-year-old has already returned $50,870 in prizemoney, boosted by an impressive $21,120 in Racing Rewards bonuses.
Trainer Travis Doudle praised both the horse and his connections after the win.
“He was a cheap horse but he’s a big strong horse and was always going to take a bit of time,” Doudle said.
“I’ve got a good group of owners who were willing to give him that time and be patient with him and they’ve got the rewards today.”
By Cosmic Force, a stallion who has produced recent Stakes winners including Raging Force, Bacash and Stay Focused (winner of the 2025 Listed Nitschke Stakes at Morphettville), The Cosmic One is continuing the momentum for the Newgate sire.
After being slow away on debut, The Cosmic One jumped much cleaner on Saturday and was well supported in betting, firming from $4.80 into $3.80. He didn’t let punters or his large, vocal ownership group down, running out a narrow winner.
His victory serves as a reminder that you don’t need to spend big at the sales to enjoy success on the track. Sometimes patience and the right horse are all it takes.
