Three-year-old Bargain Boy lived up to his name in a big way on New Year’s Day, breaking through for a deserved maiden win at Murray Bridge over 1400 metres at just his fourth career start.
Purchased for a mere $1,500 from the 2024 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Bargain Boy ensured 2026 began in fine fashion for his ownership group, which includes several first-time owners.
Along with the winner’s cheque, Bargain Boy also picked up an extra $8,360 in Racing Rewards bonuses, underlining just how valuable the bargain buy has already become.
Trainer Kerrin Stokes was thrilled with the result and the story behind it. “It’s a great story, he was a very cheap horse and he’s probably paid himself off today,” Stokes said.
Importantly, the stable believes there is plenty more upside to come. “He’s got a lot to learn but he’ll keep improving and there’s a lot of horse to work with,” Stokes added.
What began as a low-cost entry into racehorse ownership has already turned into a memorable New Year’s celebration, and Bargain Boy looks poised to continue rewarding his connections as he matures.
